Code of Conduct🏸

Purpose

This Code of Conduct outlines the behaviour expected of all members, including athletes, parents, coaches, and volunteers. Respect Badminton Club is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment that supports skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. All participants are required to uphold these values both on and off the court.
 

1. Athlete Conduct

All athletes must:

  • Show respect to coaches, officials, teammates, and opponents at all times.

  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and avoid negative behaviour or verbal abuse.

  • Follow all club rules, training instructions, and safety procedures.

  • Arrive on time for practices and matches; notify the coach if absent or late.

  • Care for equipment and facilities, keeping spaces clean and organized.

  • Give full effort during training and competition.

  • Avoid inappropriate language, bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.
     

2. Parent and Spectator Conduct

Parents and spectators are expected to:

  • Encourage players positively and refrain from coaching unless invited by staff.

  • Respect officials, coaches, athletes, and other spectators.

  • Model sportsmanship and fair play at all times.

  • Address concerns privately and respectfully with coaches or club management.

  • Support the club’s commitment to affordability, inclusion, and cultural respect.

3. Coach Conduct

Coaches and volunteers agree to:

  • Provide a safe, positive, and inclusive training environment.

  • Treat all participants fairly regardless of age, skill, or background.

  • Model respect, professionalism, and integrity.

  • Communicate clearly and constructively with athletes and families.

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and follow all club and facility policies.

4. Attendance and Commitment

  • Members are expected to attend all scheduled practices and matches.

  • Absences must be communicated to the coach whenever possible.

  • Repeated unexcused absences or lack of effort may affect team placement or match opportunities.

5. Consequences for Misconduct

Respect Badminton Club follows a progressive discipline process:

  1. Verbal Warning – Discussion with the coach to correct behaviour.

  2. Written Warning – Documentation added to the athlete’s file.

  3. Temporary Suspension – Removal from one or more practices or matches.

  4. Dismissal from Program – For repeated or severe misconduct (e.g., violence, bullying, discrimination, property damage).

  • Parents will be notified for any athlete under 18.

  • Refunds will not be provided for missed sessions or dismissal due to misconduct.

6. Privacy and Confidentiality

All personal and disciplinary information will be stored securely and handled in accordance with the club’s privacy policy.

7. Acknowledgment

All players and parents/guardians must sign the Code of Conduct acknowledgment form at registration, confirming that they have read and agree to these expectations.

 

8. Uniform and Equipment Requirements

All athletes are expected to:

  • Wear the required Respect Badminton Club shirt to all practices, matches, and events.

  • Arrive with clean indoor non-marking shoes suitable for badminton.

  • Wear proper athletic attire that allows for safe movement.

  • Bring their own badminton racquet to every session.

  • Bring a personal water bottle and any required equipment.

  • Ensure all clothing and equipment are clean, safe, and in good condition.

 

9. Safety and Facility Rules

  • Athletes must remain in the gym area unless given permission by a coach.

  • No running in hallways, climbing equipment, or entering restricted areas.

  • Water is permitted inside the gym; food is not allowed on the courts.

  • Indoor shoes must be worn before stepping onto the court—no outdoor shoes inside the gym.

  • All injuries or safety concerns must be reported immediately to the coach.

 

10. Communication Guidelines

  • Non-emergency questions should be communicated by email or after class.

  • Coaches will not respond to messages during lessons or matches.

  • Time-sensitive or emergency matters should be communicated directly at the start of class.

  • Respectful communication is expected in all interactions.

 

11. Photography and Video Policy

  • Photography and video recording are permitted only if they do not distract athletes or interfere with training.

  • No recording of other athletes without prior consent from their parent/guardian.

  • The club may take photos or videos for promotional use with consent provided during registration.

 

12. Health and Wellness

  • Athletes must inform the coach of any injuries before participating.

  • Athletes who are sick should stay home to protect teammates and staff.

  • Participation in warm-up and cool-down activities is required for safety.

  • The club maintains a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, intimidation, or violence.

 

13. Weather, Emergency, and Facility Closure Policy

  • Sessions may be cancelled due to severe weather, facility issues, or emergencies.

  • The club will notify families as soon as possible.

  • Makeup sessions may be offered when feasible but are not guaranteed.

  • No refunds will be issued for cancellations beyond the club’s control.

14. No Refund Policy

  • Respect Badminton Club does not provide refunds for missed sessions, late arrivals, absences, or early withdrawal from the program.

  • No refunds will be issued in cases of suspension or dismissal due to misconduct, Code of Conduct violations, or failure to meet club expectations.

  • Refunds will not be provided due to weather interruptions, facility closures, or circumstances beyond the club’s control.

  • Credit or make-up sessions may be offered only at the club’s discretion and are not guaranteed.

 

15. Drop-Off and Pick-Up Policy

  • Athletes must be dropped off and picked up on time.

  • Coaches are not responsible for supervising athletes outside scheduled class times.

  • Parents must ensure their child is safely inside the gym before leaving.

  • The club is not responsible for athletes left unattended before or after scheduled sessions.

  • Late pick-ups may result in warnings or additional action.

16. Personal Belongings Policy

  • The club is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.

  • Athletes should label their equipment and avoid bringing valuables.

  • Items left behind may be placed in the lost-and-found area, if available.

17. Respect for Facility Staff

  • All members must show respect to facility staff, custodians, security, and administrators.

  • Instructions from facility staff regarding safety, space usage, and access must be followed.

18. Social Media & Online Behaviour Policy

  • Members must conduct themselves respectfully on social media.

  • Negative, harmful, or harassing online behaviour toward coaches, athletes, or the club is prohibited.

  • Parents and athletes must not post discriminatory, bullying, or misleading content about the club.

19. Transportation & Carpool Disclaimer

  • The club is not responsible for arranging transportation to or from events.

  • Carpooling is the responsibility of parents.

  • The club assumes no responsibility for carpool arrangements, including safety, insurance, or liability.

20. Competitive Program Expectations

  • Athletes in competitive streams must attend minimum training hours.

  • Parents are responsible for tournament registration and meeting deadlines.

  • Athletes representing the club in tournaments must:

    • Wear the club shirt.

    • Follow all tournament rules.

    • Conduct themselves respectfully at all times.

21. Volunteer Conduct

  • Volunteers must follow all club policies and respect coach instructions.

  • Volunteers must maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.

22. Changes to Code of Conduct

  • Respect Badminton Club may update the Code of Conduct from time to time.

  • Members will be notified of any changes by posting the updated Code of Conduct and revising the “Last Updated” date.
